Go West
(Ahmed Imamovic, Bosnia-Herzogovina, 2005, 97 min)
This extraordinary and courageous film takes place during the collapse of Yugoslavia into hatred and ethnic war in the ‘90s.  Two lovers, a Serb, Milan, and a Muslim, Kenan, flee to Milan’s home village, hoping to find a way to the Netherlands.  Milan disguises Kenan as his wife.  After Milan is drafted into the army, Kenan, waiting for his lover’s return, must continue to live as a woman, fearful of being found out… A serious, shocking film which somehow manages to carry its subject, if not lightly, certainly with humor.  Watch for an appearance by French cinema icon Jeanne Moreau, one of the film’s producers.  In Serbo-Croatian with English subtitles.  www.gowest.ba

Punctuated by glimpses of a possible relationship between the two of them, the film explores the unique connection that composes ordinary conversations.  In Portuguese with English subtitles.
