The introduction of apartheid is just beginning its treacherous grip on Cape Town, South Africa of 1952. This is the setting for debuting director Shamim Sarif's acclaimed novel, now film. Amina, a gorgeous no-nonsense, business owner of a café has broken all the rules of her own conventional Indian community. When Miriam (Lisa Ray, star of Deepa Mehta's film Water), a young traditional Indian wife and mother, meets Amina, their unexpected attraction pushes Miriam to question her loveless marriage and sets in motion a chain of events that will forever change their lives.
